Love, Valentine’s Day!
February is my favorite month. Every year, my kids, neighbors, friends and family
sit around my kitchen table and cut out Hearts for homemade Valentines. Everyone brings different types of scissors,
with different edges. (Scallops, jigsaw,
pinking, wave, mount peak, camel, mini volcano and rocky ground to name a few). We cut
out hundreds of hearts in every shape and size, small, medium and large. We don’t just cut RED paper; we use white,
black, and pink, purple and mix in beautiful doilies to add that homemade
touch.
I asked my daughter if she wanted to buy Valentines this
year, her response was priceless. No, we
never buy them, I love making them. On the Thursday, before Valentine’s Day, we
take tons of hearts to Catechism and all the children make Valentines for all
the seniors in the parish. This will be
our 6th year of making and sharing Valentines; many seniors live in an assisted
living facility, or are in home care and have out lived their spouses and maybe
even their children. They are always so
happy to receive the sweet Valentines, and I am so impressed with how creative
and how beautiful each child decorates them with glitter, stickers and a kind
note.
The holidays come and go, a homemade Valentines is a perfect
ways to tell someone you are thinking about them and how much you care.
I find tons of great paper and decorating items in the dollar
and party section at Target.
Homemade Valentines are easy, all you need:
Any type of paper, any color, texture. I love wallpaper samples
- Glue sticks
- Glitter glue is less messy
- Stickers, tons of stickers
- Ribbons
- Markers and crayons
- Envelopes (they can be the plain white one, adding stickers and stamps to them will do the trick)
If you make 1 or 100, have fun and whomever you send it to,
will love it!
