I use my Target basket for so many things, usually shopping,
sometimes carrying class projects but today I used it to pick fresh oranges
off our family tree. These orange trees
were planted 55 years ago, from small pots.
Today, they are huge, 3 in all; when I was growing up, I would play outside, pick, peel and eat them.
Today, I filled my basket; they smell so wonderful; we never
used pesticides, sprays or chemicals.
Sometime ants crawl up and down the branches, but we let them. Once the oranges are picked, we give them a
lite wash, just to remove any dirt or ants. My basket is perfect for this, because all
the water just rinses right through.
(see the picture on my google page) They are not perfect like the oranges you
find in the store, they have bumps and bruises and some still have the leaves
attached. The beauty is on the inside,
the smell, the color and the taste.
When I want one, I wash it well, peel with just my finger
and the room fills with the scent of fresh orange. My kids can smell it, and assume it is for
them. I always peal a few, leave them in
a bowl on the table and they are eaten with in minutes.
It is flu and cold season; nothing makes us feel better than
a fresh picked orange. Find a friend who
has a tree and ask if you can have a few, you will taste the difference.
Enjoy!
